What is the function of the Desktop CPU Cooler?

2024-08-15

The cooler of a desktop computer plays a crucial role in the operation of the computer. It is mainly responsible for absorbing the heat generated by various chips in the integrated circuit and dissipating it either inside or outside the computer case to ensure that the temperature of the computer components remains within the normal range. Generally, most coolers absorb heat by coming into contact with the surface of the heating components and then transfer the heat to a distant place through various methods, such as into the air inside the computer case. Subsequently, the computer case expels this hot air outside the case to achieve the cooling process of the computer.

There are numerous types of coolers, including those for the CPU, graphics card, motherboard chipset, hard disk, computer case, power supply, and even the optical drive and memory. It should be noted that these different types of coolers cannot be used interchangeably. Among them, the CPU cooler is the one that people come into contact with most frequently in daily use.

...                 Liquid Cooler
...                 Heat Pipe Cooler

According to the way the cooler removes heat, coolers can be classified into active cooling and passive cooling. The common form of active cooling is the air-cooled cooler, while the common form of passive cooling is the heat sink. If we further subdivide the cooling methods, they can be classified as air cooling, heat pipe cooling, liquid cooling, semiconductor cooling, compressor cooling, and so on.

In conclusion, the key role of the cooler is to absorb heat and dissipate it either inside or outside the computer case to maintain the normal temperature of the computer components.
